Keeping Goats, Let’s Talk Rumen, Bloat & Baking Soda

🐐 Hey goat lovers! Did you know that goats can get sick from bloat? 😮 We use an easy prevention effort: BAKING SODA!  Yep—that little yellow box that we used to keep our fridge smelling nice, sprinkled on carpets to clean, or added a teaspoon to a quick bread recipe… the same one!

Here are 5 reasons to free-feed your goats baking soda:

1️⃣ Prevents Bloat: Bloating can be a serious issue for goats, causing discomfort and even health risks. Free-feeding baking soda helps regulate the pH levels in their stomachs, reducing the chances of bloating.

2️⃣ Maintains Rumen Health: Baking soda acts as a rumen buffer, keeping the microbial population in the stomach healthy. This aids in digestion and prevents gas buildup, promoting overall rumen health.

3️⃣ Supports Digestion: Goats have sensitive digestive systems. Offering free access to baking soda helps them balance their stomach acids, supporting efficient digestion and nutrient absorption.

4️⃣ Encourages Self-Regulation: By providing free-feed baking soda, goats can instinctively consume it when they feel the need. This empowers them to self-regulate their stomachs and maintain a comfortable digestive process.

5️⃣ Cost-Effective Solution: Free-feeding baking soda is a budget-friendly approach to goat care. It requires minimal investment while providing significant benefits for their digestive well-being.

Just put a container of baking soda where your goats can easily reach it, and let them eat it whenever they need it. 🤗 This way, they can take care of their own stomachs and stay happy and healthy. 🐐💚(some people give a fixed amount, but free choice works for us!)

Remember, happy goats are healthy goats! 🌟 Share this info with other goat fans so we can all keep our goats feeling good and bloat-free!
