Hi friends! As we are jumping on a plane for our journey back to Tennessee (yeeehawww!), I wanted to share a farm focused little snippet from London’s National Gallery. This place is an art lover’s paradise, housing over 2,300 priceless works. But, no surprise here, I gravitate towards the pieces that celebrate the rustic beauty of farm life.
Among my favorites are the works of Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890). His use of bold colors and expressive brushwork brings a unique vibrancy to even the simplest rural scenes. Van Gogh, a post-Impressionist master, had a way of capturing the essence of the countryside that’s both moving and profound.
Another artist who caught my eye was Adriaen van de Velde (1636-1672) hailing from the Dutch Golden Age. His paintings often portray serene pastoral landscapes with a remarkable attention to detail. His ability to depict light and shadow in rural settings is simply captivating.
These artists, though centuries apart, share a common thread in their appreciation of the agricultural life, something that resonates deeply with me. They also both died young — under 40 years of age! Here’s to an artful end to a fantastic trip across the pond.
