#FarmSunday Devotional – Think on These Things

Ever find yourself sliding down that rabbit hole of negative thoughts — what some call “stinking thinking”? One thought leads to another, and before you know it, your mind feels cluttered and heavy, filled with worry, frustration, or doubt. The more you sit in it, the worse it gets. What are you filling your mind with these days? What’s taking up space in your thoughts? Is there “mental garbage” piling up — the kind of thoughts that drain your joy instead of building you up? Are your thoughts helping you grow, or are they negative, unproductive, and far from uplifting, encouraging, pure, or wholesome?

In Philippians 4:8, the Apostle Paul gives us the perfect remedy for this “stinking thinking.”

Summing it all up, friends…I’d say you’ll do your best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, kind—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse.

From Paul’s words, we can draw three keys for a healthier, stronger mindset:

First, we are at our best when our minds are healthy and whole. That doesn’t happen by accident — we have to be proactive and intentional about protecting what we allow into our thoughts.

Second, Paul tells us to “fill our minds” with good things. That means leaving no vacancy for destructive thoughts or harmful mindsets. A healthy mind isn’t just the absence of negativity — it’s the intentional presence of truth, hope, and encouragement.

Finally, Paul points us toward where our focus should be: things that are true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, kind, the best, the beautiful, and praiseworthy. These aren’t just nice ideas — they are shaping tools. The more we focus on these things, the more they influence our character, our choices, and our actions.

This week, let’s be intentional about overcoming our “stinking thinking” and winning the battleground of our minds. Fill your thoughts with Jesus Christ — because He is true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, kind, the very best, the most beautiful, and completely worthy of our praise.
