A simple jar that makes everything taste better
There’s something about having a jar like this in the fridge.
It takes just a few minutes to make, but you’ll reach for it all week—on salads, sandwiches, or alongside whatever you’re cooking for dinner.
It’s simple, it works, and it adds that little something that makes a meal feel finished.
Ingredients
1 medium red onion, thinly sliced
1 cup apple cider vinegar
1 cup water
1 tablespoon honey (or sugar)
1 ½ teaspoons salt
Optional:
A few peppercorns or a pinch of red pepper flakes for a little kick
Instructions
Thinly slice your onion and pack it into a clean jar.
In a small bowl or measuring cup, mix together the apple cider vinegar, water, honey, and salt until everything is dissolved.
Pour the mixture over the onions, making sure they’re fully covered.
Give the jar a little shake, pop on a lid, and let it sit.
You can use them after about an hour, but they’re best after a few hours—or even the next day.
Store in the fridge and use throughout the week.
Notes
These will keep in the fridge for 3+ weeks and honestly just get better with time.
If you like them a little sweeter, add a touch more honey. If you like more bite, go a little heavier on the vinegar.
How to Use Them
Add to salads for a little brightness
Layer into sandwiches or wraps
Serve alongside roasted vegetables or meats
Or just keep a fork handy—you’ll find ways to use them
