Years ago we were driving to a wedding, headed from Denver into a ski town in the Colorado mountains. As we got close and the Rockies came into full view, I was struck. Overwhelmed. I actually cried. I wasn’t expecting it, but the sheer grandeur of those mountains undid me. What we see can move us. It can bring us to tears, change the shape of a day, even change the shape of a life. The author of Hebrews puts it this way in chapter 12, verse 2: “Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we are in.”
Keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus means giving Him our undivided focus and our full attention. But too many of us settle for a passing glance of Jesus. A glance is quick. It fades the moment we look away. And a glance will never be enough to pull us out of distraction, or to redirect our hearts away from our past or our troubles. Instead, we want to gaze upon Jesus. We want to turn our eyes upon Him, continuously focusing and devoting our entire concentration to Him. We want Jesus to be the only thing our eyes see. And when we only look at Him: We find perfect peace, love, and joy that surpasses all human understanding. We find the guidance and direction that perfectly directs our steps. We find stillness and comfort for our troubled hearts in times of pain and suffering. We find that God is greater than our heart, because He knows everything. We find confidence to do all things through Jesus Christ, who strengthens us. We find how to begin and finish this race that Christ has set before us. This week, let’s fix our eyes on Jesus. Not a glance. A gaze. Let’s focus our full attention on Him, and in seeing Him, become more like Him. Check out our devotional today and pass on the Good News. Now that’s BombDiggity.
