#FarmSunday Devotional: Seasons of Ups and Downs

It’s been a tough week here at the farm. We had to say goodbye to a baby goat, one of our sweet farm kitties was shot and will lose a leg, and somewhere in the middle of it all, Jules managed to run the mower straight through a wooden fence—with her leg caught in the mix. The list just kept growing. Some weeks feel like that, don’t they? Heavy, confusing, and exhausting.

But even in the middle of chaos, God reminds us in Ecclesiastes 3:1:

“There’s an opportune time or season to do things, a right time for everything on the earth.”

This passage teaches us that no matter how carefully we plan or how tightly we hold our schedules, God’s timing often looks different from ours—and yet, His timing and His plans are always perfect. Eventually, they make sense, even when we can’t see how in the moment.

Verses 2–15 go on to describe the seasons of life —times to laugh and times to weep, times to plant and times to uproot. Through every high and low, we are reminded that God loves us deeply, that He has a beautiful plan for our lives, and that for those who trust Him fully, He calls us to enjoy the fullness of life He’s given.

Life is a gift from God, meant to be lived with joy. It frees us from constantly asking, “Why is this happening?” and invites us instead to rest in faith—believing that His plan is good and unchanging.

So, this week, no matter the ups and downs, even when we can’t fully understand what God is up to, let’s place our faith and worship in Jesus Christ. His timing is perfect. His plan is secure.
