🌿 Farmin’ in the Heart of London: Hackney City Farm 🐖🌱

Today’s adventure took an unexpected turn as we discovered Hackney City Farm (est 1984), just a 30-minute bus ride from central London. Tucked away on a city street, this hidden gem reveals itself as you turn a corner and find yourself on a path leading straight to a quaint farm that in the early 1800s the site was occupied by farmers and market gardeners supplying fresh produce to the city of London.

Amidst the city’s hustle, it’s a world of its own with pigs, piglets, ducks, chickens, donkeys, goats, and sheep. There are also gardens that while now are primarily dormant, are easy to imagine spring bursting through soon!

This little farm struck me as a bit of a beacon of sustainability and community spirit. You can feel the youthful energy and commitment to the environment, with signs of community gardens contributing their produce and “bring your own container” refillable item days.

While it might not be the East Tennessee countryside I adore, it does remind me why I travel – to learn, explore, and satisfy my curiosity. Despite my numerous visits to London, this trip has definitely taken a deeper dive into the local food and farm life.
