#FarmSunday – Rooted in Love

Ephesians 3:17-19 (NIV)
And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

As we’ve worked tirelessly removing tree stumps from our field, preparing it for cattle, a powerful lesson about our spiritual life emerged. The roots of these trees were massive, deeply entrenched, and holding on with incredible strength. This physical struggle with the roots mirrors our spiritual journey to become deeply rooted in Christ’s love.

In Ephesians 3:14-21, Paul emphasizes the importance of being “rooted and established in love.” Just as the roots of a tree provide it with stability, nourishment, and life, being rooted in Christ’s love offers us spiritual nourishment and strength.

When Paul prays for us to be strengthened in our inner being and to have Christ dwell in our hearts, he is speaking of a transformation that goes beyond surface-level faith. To be rooted in Christ means to draw our strength, nourishment, and purpose from His endless love. This love is so vast and deep – much like the roots of a tree – that it surpasses our human understanding.

This profound love of Christ is the foundation upon which our lives should be built. Just as a tree’s roots anchor it against storms, being rooted in Christ’s love anchors us in life’s challenges. It is in understanding and experiencing this love that we grow and mature in our faith, becoming more like Christ.

As we face our daily lives, let us remember the importance of being rooted in Christ’s love. It is this foundation that will provide us with the strength and nourishment we need to grow and thrive in our spiritual lives.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the deep, nourishing love of Christ. Help us to be rooted and established in this love, drawing our strength and nourishment from it. May we understand the vastness of Christ’s love and be filled with the fullness of God. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
