Christ has called us to a life of freedom in Him. The challenge of that freedom is to not exploit it for our personal gain, but instead, use it as an opportunity to serve one another—that’s how our freedom in Christ grows. Everything we know about God’s Word is summed up in one sentence: Love one another as you love yourself. That’s an act of true love.
Galatians 5:13-14 from The Message version reads:
“It is absolutely clear that God has called you to a free life. Just make sure that you don’t use this freedom as an excuse to do whatever you want to do and destroy your freedom. Rather, use your freedom to serve one another in love; that’s how freedom grows. For everything we know about God’s Word is summed up in a single sentence: Love others as you love yourself. That’s an act of true freedom.” — Galatians 5:13-14 (The Message)
This freedom isn’t about serving ourselves or indulging in what we want. It’s about finding joy and purpose in loving others. True freedom comes alive when we set aside our desires and choose to serve those around us. It shows up in the small, everyday acts—a kind word, a listening ear, a helping hand. These moments are like seeds planted in a garden, growing into a harvest of grace and love.
The beauty of this freedom is that it multiplies. When we love others as we love ourselves, we create a ripple effect that touches lives far beyond what we can see. It’s not always easy, and it often requires putting others’ needs before our own, but in this selfless giving, we find a peace and fulfillment that nothing else can offer.
This week, let’s embrace the freedom Christ gives us to serve one another in love. How can you use your freedom to bless someone else today? What small seed of kindness can you plant? And remember, in those moments when patience feels out of reach, take a deep breath and choose to show a bit of love, even when frustration tries to take the lead. Let’s make our lives a reflection of this true freedom, one that brings light and love to others. 🌱💛
