#FarmSunday Devotional: Seeing Through Jesus’ Eyes

Welcome to the #FarmSunday Devotional!

“Then Jesus made a circuit of all the towns and villages. He taught in their meeting places, reported kingdom news, and healed their diseased bodies, healed their bruised and hurt lives. When he looked out over the crowds, his heart broke. So confused and aimless they were, like sheep with no shepherd. “What a huge harvest!” he said to his disciples. “How few workers! On your knees and pray for harvest hands!” — Matthew 9:35-38 (The Message)

Matthew 9:35-38 summarizes the ministry of Jesus. In this passage, we see the heart and passion of Jesus’s ministry. He didn’t just preach & teach; He saw the people, saw their pain, their confusion, their brokenness, their lack of direction—like sheep wandering without a shepherd. His heart broke for them. He knew they needed the good news of God’s kingdom and His healing touch. Jesus saw people who needed someone to guide them, to bring salvation’s hope, deliverance, and restoration.

Jesus told his disciples to pray and, in those prayers, to see people and the harvest through His eyes—compassionate eyes that seeks to bring the good news and healing to others. Jesus invites us to join Him in ministry. To see that the magnitude of ministry work is great….but the number of ministry workers is few. There is a harvest to be gathered, and Christ is calling us to step up and join Him.

This week, let’s ask God to open our eyes so we can see people as Jesus sees them. And also, to be challenged in our hearts to answer Christ’s call to tenderly care for the bruised, broken, and hurt lives of people around us.
