And Then It Was September: Embracing the Passage of Time

Hey there, friends! Can you believe it? September is upon us once again, and I can’t help but marvel at how quickly time has flown by. It feels like just yesterday we were planting spring crops and struggling with the oppressive heat of summer, and this morning, I woke up to the crisp morning air and the gentle rustling of leaves. The changing seasons on the farm have a way of reminding us just how swiftly life moves along.

With 55-years of life under my belt, I’ve witnessed the cycles of nature mirror the cycles of life. Just like the seeds we plant in the spring grow into vibrant crops, so do our children grow into young adults, ready to venture out into the world. It’s bittersweet, really.

September, with its golden hues and the promise of harvest, has always been a time of reflection for me. I find myself reminiscing about the years that have passed, and I’m reminded of the lessons I’ve learned from the journey and from this land. Patience, resilience, and the importance of hard work—these values have been ingrained in me, just as they’ve been woven into the fabric of this farm.

The changing leaves also remind me that just as autumn follows summer, so do the seasons of our lives progress. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily tasks, but September beckons us to slow down, to savor the moments, and to appreciate the beauty that surrounds us. The world may move fast, but there’s something truly magical about taking a moment to breathe in the fresh September air and feel the crunch of fallen leaves underfoot.

With each passing year, I find myself more grateful for the simple pleasures that life on this farm brings. Whether it’s a stunning sunset over the fields, the joy of children interacting with our animals, my rescues calming grazing in a field and offering their trust to us, or simply the taste of freshly harvested produce or a canned delight, these moments remind me that time might move swiftly, but the memories we create linger on.

So, as we embark on another September journey, let’s embrace the changing seasons—both on the farm and in our lives. Let’s relish the small moments, the everyday joys, and the connections we share with one another. And as the days grow shorter and the air grows cooler, may we find comfort in the rhythm of the seasons and the beauty of a life well-lived. After all, just like the leaves that fall, every season has its own unique beauty to offer.
