We recently took on an exciting project for our beloved silkie flock—a brand new coop from Tractor Supply. It’s the Walk-In Chateau by Producer’s Pride, and let me tell you, it’s snazzy! As someone who typically builds everything from scratch, I was genuinely impressed by the quality of this coop.

The assembly process was quite the adventure, with a plethora of pieces to fit together. Thankfully, every component was clearly labeled, and the instructions provided were straightforward and easy to follow. It took some time, but the effort was well worth it.

On the second day of assembly, Lane and I really buckled down, making significant headway. By today, with the help of Danny, we added a crucial feature—a skirt of hardware wire. Danny meticulously installed this around the base of the coop, extending into a trench he had previously dug. Our goal was to fortify the coop against any potential predators, ensuring our silkies could roost in peace.

The silkies have already moved in and are thoroughly enjoying the sunshine and their new spacious surroundings. Now, our next task is to figure out which of our feathered friends are roosters, as some rehoming may be necessary.
