In the bustling heart of London, life moves at a frenetic pace, markedly different from our cherished farm in East Tennessee. Both locales, despite their stark contrasts, share a common thread – they involve a commute, albeit for different reasons. London’s streets are a testament to architectural marvels, where each step is an immersion in history and modernity. The commute here is an energetic blend of walking, bustling crowds, tube rides, and the surprise of swiftly moving and sometimes terrifying bikes.
As educators with a passion for teaching, our London experience extends to the classroom. Here, we step into a stunning building. Our classroom feels far too sophisticated for the sticky notes of ideas that will eventually cover its walls.
Back at our farm, the rhythm of life is set by nature. Mornings begin with the care of animals, set against a backdrop of rolling hills, lush greenery, and breathtaking mountain, often accompanied by a spectacular sunrise. The commute, though still involving traffic, is a journey through a softer picturesque landscape
There’s an undeniable charm in visiting London, in being part of its vibrant pulse. Yet, the call of home is far stronger and is always with us. I am constantly checking on things and worry (of course a snow storm didn’t help at all!)
But for now, our focus is on our students in London. We believe in learning through real-world experiences, sending our students to engage directly with the people we are asking them to problem solve and create solutions for. This approach, we feel, is the key to crafting more effective, empathetic solutions.
Soon, we will journey back to East Tennessee, but until then, we are excited to hear our students final presentations tomorrow.
