I couldn’t be more thrilled to share my latest garden adventure –I am planning a flower garden and have started with some fall flower bulbs from some amazing small flower farms! 🌿 I just received some ranunculus corns waiting for their chance to go into the ground in late winter/early spring.
🌸 Here are 5 fall bulb tips and some insights on growing ranunculus, even if you’re no gardening expert:
Fall Bulb Tips:
- Choose Quality Bulbs: Look for firm, plump bulbs without signs of mold or rot. Quality matters for beautiful blooms. Investing in quality bulbs from quality farms will pay off in the long run!
- Plant at the Right Depth: Generally, bulbs should be planted at a depth 2-3 times their height. Deeper for larger bulbs, shallower for smaller ones.
- Location Matters: Consider sun exposure and soil drainage when selecting planting spots. Most bulbs prefer well-drained soil and sunlight.
- Spacing is Key: Give bulbs enough space to grow and thrive. Overcrowding can lead to smaller blooms.
- Feed and Water: Bulbs need nutrients to flourish. Add a balanced fertilizer when planting and maintain regular watering, especially during dry spells.
Growing Ranunculus:
Ranunculus are showstoppers in the garden, but they do require a little TLC. Here are a few tips (I’m learning too!)
- Planting Time: Up to zone 7. Fall is perfect for planting ranunculus bulbs. They love cool weather.
- Soak the Bulbs: Soak them in water for a few hours before planting to help with hydration.
- Spacing: Plant ranunculus about 4-6 inches apart.
- Well-Drained Soil: Make sure your soil is well-drained to avoid rot.
- Regular Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy.
- Mulch: Add a layer of mulch to regulate soil temperature and retain moisture.
Even if you’re not a gardening expert, dive in with enthusiasm and learn as you go – that’s how we all become green thumbs! 🌱 Share your floral adventures and stay tuned for these stunning ranunculus blooms from The Farmhouse Flower Farm 🌷✨
