“Do your best in the job you have received from the Master. Do your very best” – Colossians 4:17 (The Message)
Paul’s words to a young leader in the early church resonate far beyond their original context. They remind us that every task, every calling, and every opportunity to serve is not just a practical responsibility—it’s a spiritual one.
The young man Paul addresses likely went on to become the pastor of the church in Colossae. Yet Paul’s instructions were more than advice for his career; they were a call to view his work as an act of worship. Doing “his best” wasn’t about perfection—it was about offering his efforts to God as something sacred.
We are also called to this mindset. When we serve others, whether it’s in a formal role or in the everyday moments of life, we should do it with our whole hearts, knowing that when we do our best, we give these efforts as an offering to the Lord.
When shortcuts look tempting or when the effort feels too great, let this verse remind you: God asks for you to do and give your best. Giving your best transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary—our act of service becomes an opportunity to worship.
This week, let’s reflect on how we can turn our work, relationships, and service into acts of worship to God by intentionally giving and doing our very best.
