“This is God’s Message, the God who made earth, made it livable and lasting, known everywhere as God: ‘Call to me and I will answer you. I’ll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own.’” Jeremiah 33:3 (The Message)
The end of the year has a way of slowing us down and inviting us to reflect. We think about what we accomplished, the things that didn’t happen the way we hoped, and even a few chances we may have missed. And as we turn toward a new year, our hearts naturally look for something steady — something that grounds us, gives us hope and confidence, and reminds us that there is Someone bigger than us leading the way.
And that is exactly where this passage from Jeremiah meets us.
Jeremiah wasn’t in an easy season when God spoke these words. He was still confined. Waiting. Unsure of what the future might hold. Yet right there, in the middle of uncertainty, God spoke a message filled with hope and invitation.
Jeremiah 33:3 provides us a wonderful promise that anchors, provides hope, and comforts us. In it, God tells Jeremiah two things:
First: God invites us to call on Him, promising that He hears us and will answer us.
How exciting! The Creator who spoke the universe into existence invites and welcomes us to reach out to Him. And when we do, He hears and answers. God is not offering to be our genie in a bottle, and He is not promising a quick fix or the fix we believe is best. But He is saying:
“I am here.
I care.
I am able.”
Second: God promises to show us marvelous and wondrous things that we cannot think of or figure out on our own.
God knows where we are today — and more importantly, He already knows what the next year holds in store for us. God has a plan. He has insights about our future. He is the only One we need to place our hope and confidence in.
So as one year closes and another begins, this invitation becomes beautifully clear:
Call to Him.
This week — and throughout the next year — let’s accept God’s invitation to build a deeper and more personal relationship with Him. Let’s spend more time in conversation with Him. Let’s ask Him to amaze and truly blow our minds. Let’s ask Him to lead and guide our steps. And let’s ask Him to open our hearts and minds to a deeper understanding of who He is.
Because even when our view is limited, His never is — and He is faithful.
