My favorite book as a child was Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. And like Alexander, during those stretches when life feels like nothing is going right it’s vital to anchor ourselves in a deeper truth. In the midst of our turmoil, 1 Peter 4:12-13 from The Message calls to us with a message of hope and reassurance:
“Friends, when life gets really difficult, don’t jump to the conclusion that God isn’t on the job. Instead, be glad that you are in the very thick of what Christ experienced. This is a spiritual refining process, with glory just around the corner.”
These verses reframe our perspective on trials from despair to purpose. How cool is that?! They remind us that our struggles are not signs of God’s absence but instead proof of our participation in Christ’s journey. Our difficult days are just a part of the process that refines us, making us more like Him.
So, when you are confronted with your next “terrible, horrible, no good, very bad” day, remember: you are not forsaken. Your challenges are not random; they are opportunities for growth and transformation, intimately connecting you with Christ.
Be Blessed
