Christmas is the season for giving—finding that perfect gift for your grandbabies, kids, spouse, or friends can bring so much joy. But as we search for gifts that delight and surprise, how about we take a moment to reflect on the greatest gift ever given.
In Luke 2, we read about the angel proclaiming the birth of Jesus, saying, “I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of Bethlehem, a Savior has been born to you; He is the Messiah, the Lord.” This is where the story of the greatest gift begins—the gift of Jesus, sent from heaven to earth for us.
John 3:16 beautifully explains the depth of this gift: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” This verse might have been the first Bible verse you ever memorized, but its truth is so profound, it’s worth diving into again. Let’s break it down:
Reason: “For God so loved the world”.
God’s motivation for sending Jesus was simple, and yet, immeasurable, love. His love for humanity—His creation—was so deep and boundless that He chose to redeem us through His Son.
Price: “He gave His only begotten Son”
This gift came at an incredible cost. God willingly gave His Son, Jesus, to live among us, suffer, and die on the cross for our sins.
Requirement: “That whosoever believeth in Him”The gift of eternal life is available to everyone, but there is one requirement: faith. We must believe in Jesus as our Savior, trusting Him with our lives.
Reward: “Should not perish, but have everlasting life” The ultimate reward for believing in Jesus is eternal life with God—a life where there is no pain, sorrow, or separation from Him.
As you wrap gifts this season and watch the joy on your loved ones’ faces when they open them, remember the gift God has wrapped for you. It’s not hidden under a tree, but offered freely through faith in Jesus. It’s a gift that changes everything—both now and for eternity.
Take a moment this week to reflect on God’s immense love, the sacrifice of Jesus, and the hope we have because of Him. That’s the good news of Christmas—and oh, now that’s BombDiggity!
Have a blessed Sunday!
