There are days when life feels like a swirl of to-do lists, half-finished projects, and good intentions. You wake up meaning to be patient, present, grateful. And then the laundry piles up, the emails stack higher than you expected, someone needs you in three different directions, and by mid-afternoon you wonder if you’re doing any of it well.
Most of us don’t wake up thinking, “How can I dishonor God today?” But we do wake up trying to hold everything together in our own strength. We measure ourselves by productivity, by outcomes, by whether the day felt “successful.” And somewhere in the middle of all that striving, we forget the deeper question: Am I living in a way that truly honors the One—Jesus Christ—who gave His life for me?
In Colossians 1:10, Paul prays that believers would “live well for the Master, making Him proud of you.” What Paul is praying for is not comfort or success by the world’s standards. He is praying that followers of Jesus Christ would walk worthy of the Lord—in a manner that fully pleases Him—making Jesus Christ the number one priority of their lives.
Living well for Jesus and making Him proud means living a life of purpose with a humble servant’s heart to please Him.
It is a life that bears the fruit of the Spirit—a life of love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, and hope.
It is a life that increases in the knowledge of God—reflecting a hunger and thirst to truly know who Jesus Christ is. A life rooted, grounded, and built up in Him.
It is a life that is daily consumed with a desire to grow spiritually through prayer, studying, and obeying His Word.
It is a life completely surrendered—willing to trust and follow Him. A life that says, “Lord, I cannot do this without You. I am fully dependent upon You. Show me Your ways and direct my path as I live to honor You.”
And it is a life strengthened with the strength that only God can provide—strength to endure what feels unendurable. Strength that spills over into joy and thanksgiving to God our Father, who makes us strong enough to take part in everything bright and beautiful He has for us.
This week, we want to challenge you to think about your own life.
- How well are you living for the Master?
- Is your Christian walk one that makes Him proud and truly pleases Him?
May that be the prayer we pray — and the life we pursue — this week.
