Hi Farm Friends! 🌾🐴 Farm life is beautiful but let’s talk real – it’s not always sunshine and daisies. This past Sunday, I learned that lesson the hard way with Amelia, our bubbly, adorable but nervous rescue horse.
Mistake number one ☝️: I had food around, which is a big no-no with foodie horses like Amelia. Mistake number two ✌️: I was standing more in front than beside her. Big creatures, big responsibilities, right?
In trying to calm her, Amelia stepped onto my steel-toed boot, pinning me down, and BAM!💥– down I went, tailbone first, head second! 🤕 Bruised and sore but grateful it wasn’t worse.
This got me thinking about the everyday decisions we make around our large farm animals. It’s crucial to stay aware and prioritize safety. Here are 5 basic safety tips to remember:
1️⃣ Approach from the Side: Always from the side, near their shoulder. Avoid blind spots.
2️⃣ Mood Matters:Keep an eye on their mood and body language. Tense? Give space.
3️⃣ No Food Distractions:Keep treats away when handling, to avoid overexcitement.
4️⃣ Safety Gear is Key: Steel-toed boots saved my foot! Don’t skimp on protective gear.
5️⃣ Mind Your Habits: Like holding a lead rope safely – ready to release if needed.
Farm life is a journey of learning, especially about respecting and safely handling our animal friends. Stay safe and keep loving farm life! 🚜💚
