Hello, Sweet Bombdiggity Farms family! As we dive into another planting season, I want to share one of my favorite easy-to-grow veggies with you all — the Blue Lake Bush Beans. These little wonders are a staple around here because they don’t need a trellis and are wonderfully unfussy.
Here’s how we do it at the farm: i soak my beans the night before in warm water to soften up the shell and help them germinate. Then I plant the beans about 1 inch deep and space them around 2-3 inches apart, with about 18 inches between rows to keep that air flowing. To keep our kitchen stocked with fresh, crispy beans, I plant a new row every other week throughout the first month of the season.
And here’s a special Sweet Bombdiggity tip: I plant these beans near our squash. It’s a fantastic partnership — the beans boost the soil with nitrogen which the squash thrives on, and the squash’s large leaves provide some cooling shade and help retain moisture for the beans as temperatures climb.
So, grab your gardening gloves and let’s make this bean planting season the best one yet! Can’t wait to see your gardens thrive. Happy planting, everyone — now that’s BombDiggity!
