Growing Ranunculus: Lessons Learned and Plans for Next Year

This year, I tried something new—planting ranunculus. I planted mine in some dollar tree crates and It was a fun experiment, and I’ve loved seeing these beautiful flowers bloom!

🌸 What Worked Well:

– Crate Success: The crates worked great for growing ranunculus. They had good drainage, and the plants seemed happy.

– Beautiful Blooms: Even though it was my first time trying this, the ranunculus bloomed beautifully and brought so much color to the garden.

🌸 What I Learned:

– Go Bigger: Next year, I’m going to use bigger containers. The crates were nice, but more space will help the ranunculus grow even better.

– Start Earlier: Hopefully, with a greenhouse in place next year, I’ll start the ranunculus earlier. This should give them a head start and lead to even more amazing blooms.

– Plant More: I’ve fallen in love with these flowers, so I’ll definitely plant more next year to fill the garden with even more color.

Tips for Growing Ranunculus:

1️⃣ Pick the Right Container: Make sure your containers have good drainage and are big enough for the roots.

2️⃣ Pre-Sprout Corms: Soak the corms overnight before planting to give them a boost.

3️⃣ Cool Temperatures: Ranunculus like cooler weather, so plant them in early spring or late fall.

4️⃣ Well-Drained Soil: Use soil that drains well to avoid root rot.

5️⃣ Water Regularly: Keep the soil moist but not soggy.

6️⃣ Fertilize: Use a balanced fertilizer to help the plants grow and bloom. I use @BugHut fertilizers! I can do a post on that later, I have fallen in love with them!

7️⃣ Provide Support: As the plants grow, give them some support to keep the blooms upright.

This year’s ranunculus adventure has been a blast, and I can’t wait to go bigger and better next year. Stay tuned for more updates from Sweet Bombdiggity Farms!

Happy gardening,

Jules
