#FarmSunday Devotional | Chasing What Matters

As a professor, I love a motivated student. Ambitious, driven, hungry to stretch and go after everything they’re capable of. I see their potential, so I push them, because I know what’s in them before they do.

Ask my kids and they’ll tell you it’s no different at home. Mama doesn’t do lazy.

That kind of drive, chasing something with everything you’ve got, is exactly what the Apostle Paul is calling his young protégé Timothy to in 1 Timothy 6:11-12. Paul isn’t telling Timothy to chase what the world calls success. He’s telling him to pursue and chase after what God cares about.

Paul lays out three things worth chasing.

A life of righteousness. Right living. A life full of wonder, faith, love, endurance, and kindness.

A life of faith. Run hard. Run fast. Run with purpose. Run with every ounce of energy and everything you’ve got, after faith in Jesus Christ.

Eternal life. Lay hold of it. Seize it. Squeeze it. Grip it with all your might. Your eternity depends on it.

This week, ask yourself what you’re chasing after. Are you chasing things that have the ability to ruin you? Cause you trouble? Cause you to lose your way?

Or are you pursuing and chasing after Jesus Christ and all that He has for your life?
