#FarmSunday Devotional: Good News — A Savior is Born

We hear a lot of news every single day. Headlines on our phones before we’ve even had breakfast. Notifications buzzing while we’re in the car, at work, or standing in the kitchen trying to decide what’s for dinner. Some of that news is heavy. Some of it is loud. Some of it feels so far outside our control that we scroll past it just to protect our hearts.

And then, every now and then, a different kind of news reaches us. The kind that makes us pause. The kind that feels personal and grounding. News that doesn’t rush us—but meets us right where we are and stays with us for eternity.

That’s the kind of wonderful news this story brings.

In Luke 2:8–12, the shepherds weren’t looking for an announcement. They weren’t gathered for something special. They were just doing what they always did—working the night shift, keeping watch, tending what had been entrusted to them. Ordinary people in an ordinary moment doing their ordinary jobs.

Then suddenly, God showed up.

An angel stood among them, and God’s glory lit up the darkness around them. Of course they were terrified. But the first words out of the angel’s mouth weren’t judgment or instruction—they were reassurance: “Don’t be afraid.”

And then came the good news.

“A Savior has just been born in David’s town—a Savior who is Messiah and Master.”

Those words matter.

A Savior has been born—the One who rescues and delivers.

This Savior is the Messiah, God’s promised King from the line of David, arriving exactly as God said He would.

And this Savior is Lord.

A title of deity denoting complete authority. Possessing complete power and rule over all creation.

And then the angel gives them a sign—simple and unexpected:

“This is what you’re to look for: a baby wrapped in a blanket and lying in a manger.”

Glory wrapped in humility. Heaven meeting earth.

And who is this Savior, this Messiah, this Lord?

His name is Jesus.

Jesus Christ—Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

This week, let’s celebrate more than a baby’s birth. Let’s celebrate the good news that still meets us right where we are. A Savior has come, and this good news is for everyone.

Let’s pass of the good news. Now that’s BombDiggity!
