“Keep me safe, O God, I’ve run for dear life to you. I say to God, ‘Be my Lord!’ Without you, nothing makes sense.” — Psalm 16:1–2 (The Message)
Psalm 16 is a special psalm of King David—often called a “golden psalm” because it holds guidance of the highest value and importance. In these opening verses, David expresses four powerful declarations about his relationship with God that we can take to heart in our own spiritual lives.
Deliverance:
“Keep me safe, O God.”
David cries out for protection and rescue. It’s a reminder that true safety and salvation come from one place only — the Lord Himself. When we feel the weight of the world, He is our defender.
Desperation:
“I’ve run for dear life to you.”
This is not casual faith. It’s urgent. Desperate. David is stretching, reaching, straining toward God because there are no other options. He knows that God alone is enough.
Declaration:
“Be my Lord.”
These are not just words — they are a surrender. A heartfelt confession that says, You are Lord of my life. I give you everything.
Dependence:
“Without you, nothing makes sense.”
When we center our hearts on Christ, everything else finds its order. Without Him, even the best days lose meaning. But with Him, every piece of our lives — our work, our families, our purpose — fits together perfectly.
This week, let’s “run for dear life to Jesus Christ.” His arms are open wide, ready to receive us. Whatever we’re facing — worry, weariness, or waiting — we can rest knowing He is our deliverer, our Lord, and our safe place.
