#FarmSunday Devotional: Practicing Real Love

Welcome to #FarmSunday. Today, we explore a profound passage from 1 John 3: 18-20 that challenges us to embody the our faith through actions, not just words.

My dear children, let’s not just talk about love; let’s practice real love. This is the only way we’ll know we’re living truly, living in God’s reality. It’s also the way to shut down debilitating self-criticism, even when there is something to it. For God is greater than our worried hearts and knows more about us than we do ourselves.”

Associating Yourself with Christ

When you choose to practice real love, you are doing more than performing acts of kindness. You are associating yourself with Christ in the most genuine and true way, identifying deeply with Him. This alignment with Christ is about embodying His love and grace through every action and interaction.

Rising Above Self-Criticism

It’s easy to be hard on ourselves, to dwell on our shortcomings and failures. However, the passage reminds us that even when our self-criticism is legitimate, we should make our actions about others and not about ourselves. By serving others, we step beyond our limitations and contribute to a greater good, reflecting Christ’s love.

The best news….
God is greater than our worried hearts and knows more about us than we ourselves

This one simple line reassures us that God understands our inner workings, our doubts, and our struggles better than we do. His perspective is greater, His understanding deeper. So when you feel overwhelmed by self-doubt or worry, remember that God holds a vision of you that is complete and compassionate.

This week, let’s practice real love. Look beyond mere words and let your actions speak. Whether it’s helping a neighbor, volunteering your time, or simply offering a kind word where it’s needed, let every action reflect the love of Christ.
