#FarmSunday Why We Celebrate Easter

Easter is a season that feels both joyful and deeply meaningful.

It is a celebration, but not just in the way the world often celebrates. It is not only about gathering, the lunch meal, or even the traditions we hold close. At its heart, for followers and believers of Jesus Christ, Easter is about remembering what was done for us and what it means for us today. And for non-believers, it’s an invitation to experience a new life in Jesus Christ.

It is about life made new. It is about hope that does not fade. It is about a promise that still stands.

So as followers of Jesus Christ, here are four reasons we celebrate Easter.

The Cross

The Cross is where everything changed.

The Apostle Paul says in Galatians 6:14:

“For my part, I am going to boast about nothing but the Cross of our Master—Jesus Christ. Because of that Cross, I have been crucified in relation to the world and set free from the stifling atmosphere of pleasing others and trying to fit into the little rules and dictated patterns of the world.”

And in Romans 6:6:

“Our old way of life was nailed to the Cross with Jesus Christ a decisive end to that sin-miserable life no longer captive to sin’s demands.”

Because of the Cross, we are no longer bound by the weight of sin or the pressure of trying to measure up. That old life no longer has a hold on us.

The Blood

There is power in the blood of Jesus.

1 John 1:7 says:

“The sacrificed blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin.”

Not some sin. Not just the parts we are proud or embarrassed to talk about. All of it.

The blood of Jesus covers, cleanses, and restores. It is complete.

The Empty Tomb

Hallelujah He is risen.

In Matthew 28:7, the angel said:

“He is risen from the dead…That’s the message.”

The tomb is empty. And that changes everything.

Death did not win. The story did not end there. What looked like defeat became the greatest victory.

Resurrection Power Lives in Us

As children of God, the resurrection is not just something we celebrate. It is something we live in.

Romans 6:7 reminds us:

“If we were included in Jesus Christ’s sin-conquering death, we also get included in His life-saving resurrection. We know that when Jesus was raised from the dead it was a signal of the end of death-as-the-end. Never again will death have the last word. When Jesus died, he took sin down with Him, but alive, He brings God down to us.”

That same power that raised Jesus from the dead is alive in us.

Death does not get the final say. Sin does not get the final say. Our past does not get the final say.

Jesus Christ does!

Easter is not just a moment. It is a promise we carry forward.

Because of Jesus, we have been made new.
