Hi farm friends! I moved some of my young plants from my DIY milk jug greenhouses into their new homes in the raised beds. If you have been growing your own plants, here are a few things to keep in mind:
1️⃣ Hardening Off- I started by opening up the greenhouses to let my plants slowly get used to the outdoor light, wind, and temps. This crucial step took about a week, prepping them for their big move!
2️⃣ Gentle Separation – Today’s stars are my double yield cucumbers 🥒 and chocolate cherry tomatoes 🍅. I carefully separated them, making sure to keep those tender roots intact.
3️⃣ Planting and Watering In – I plant the tomatoes with just the top of the plant popping out and the cucumbers at the same level they were in their greenhouse set-up. After planting, I gave them a gentle water to help settle in without disturbing their delicate setup.
4️⃣ Weather Watch – Since it’s still early spring, I’m keeping an eye on those chilly nights and will cover the plants if the temperatures dip.
5️⃣ Patience and Enjoyment – Now, it’s just a waiting game. Can’t wait to see these babies grow!
I hope you find these tips helpful for your gardening adventures. I also have a full video with more details on how to create and these simple milk jug greenhouses. They are amazing!
